SOLVING LIFE PROBLEMS
WELCOME!
WHY THIS WEBSITE?
As the famous philosopher of science, Karl Popper, once wrote, "all life is problem solving." With this is mind, we developed this website for people who are struggling with stressful life problems, and as a consequence, are feeling depressed, anxious, and basically upset. If this sounds like you, then this website can help you learn to use a set of tools to better manage, cope with, and solve real-life stressful difficulties.
These tools are based on a psychotherapy program called "Emotion-Centered Problem-Solving Therapy" or EC-PST.
EC-PST is an updated version of Problem-Solving Therapy (PST) which has been demonstrated to be an evidenced-based, scientifically-supported treatment for a wide variety of psychological and emotional problems experienced by individuals of varying ages and ethnic backgrounds.
The renown pastor and book author, Rick Warren, suggests, "life is a series of problem-solving opportunities." We hope this website can be helpful in managing these "opportunities."
EC-PST TOOLS
This program teaches various skills comprising four major toolkits:
2. Problem-Solving Multi-tasking
4. Stop, Slow Down, Think, & Act (SSTA)
For more information about EC-PST, go to the page titled "What is EC-PST?"
RELEVANCE FOR VETERANS
A version of this skill-based program, Moving Forward, is currently offered at various Veterans Administration facilities and U.S. armed services bases.
In addition, on this site, we have a page specific for U.S. Veterans that is tied to a series of helpful videos on YouTube.
Funded in part by a grant from the Infinite Hero Foundation, we developed a series of 6 brief videos that demonstrate the application of the EC-PST toolkits to reduce suicide risk among U.S. military Veterans. Click here or go to the "Videos" page (see menu) to gain access to these videos which are on YouTube. In addition, on certain pages describing an EC-PST toolkit is a link to a video that demonstrates the use of a specific tool.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
In addition to pages devoted to each of the above toolkits,
-
There is a page addressing the relevance of EC-PST to reduce suicide risk
-
We also have a page for mental health professionals that provides resource information about PST/EC-PST
We hope you find this website helpful and meaningful. Note that if you are experiencing significant distress, especially depression and/or suicidal ideation, we strongly recommend you seek help from a mental health professional or facility and not rely solely on this or other websites.
